Amid the pulse of a busy Spring term, ALC staff and teachers have been stepping outside the classroom and office this month to sharpen their skills. During the past week, instructors went straight to the source at workshops in Casablanca presented by Cambridge University Press. This past Tuesday, Mounia Ngote of ALC Rabat visited Mohammedia to share strategies for teaching literacy to young learners. While faculty picked up new techniques, staffers Halima El Bahjaoui, Hamid Marghiche and Ibtissam Saad toured ALC campuses in Casablanca and Rabat, sharing and exchanging ideas with their counterparts. Seizing opportunities for professional development is essential for teachers to "break the mold," re-evaluate their habits and reinvigorate their passion, said Director Nadia Kebir. "A teacher, just like any other professional," she said, "should be updated with new methods and ideas to adapt to each class, as each class is a different experience."

From learning how to swing a bat and guard the bases, to mastering the wrist-twisting skills of Ultimate Frisbee, girls and boys of the ALC's Access Program burned off some energy during a day made possible by support from the U.S. Embassy.
